Austenitic Stainless Steel:At room temperature, the structure of this steel is austenitic and it is made up of high levels of chromium (Cr), ranging at around 18%, as well as nickel (Ni), ranging from 8% to 25%, and a low amount of carbon (C) at approximately 0.1%. The steel possesses exceptional toughness and plasticity, but lacks in strength.
Martensitic Stainless Steel:Heat treatment can be used to adjust the mechanical properties of steel, allowing it to possess varying strength and toughness depending on the tempering temperature. This process enables the steel to be customized for different applications.
Duplex Stainless Steel:The structure of this type of steel consists of approximately equal amounts of austenitic and ferritic phases. In cases where the carbon content is low, the chromium content ranges from 18% to 28%, while the nickel content ranges from 3% to 10%. Alongside these primary elements, certain steels may also incorporate other alloying elements like molybdenum, copper, silicon, niobium, titanium, and nitrogen. As a result, this steel possesses the combined properties of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steels.
Ferritic Stainless Steel:With a body-centered cubic crystal structure, this type of steel typically contains 15% to 30% chromium. It is characterized by its exceptional stress corrosion resistance and good oxidation resistance, owing to its low nickel content and trace amounts of Mo, Ti, Nb, and other elements. Additionally, this steel boasts large thermal conductivity and a small expansion coefficient.
