The Chromium forms a layer of oxide on top of the steel's surface, called the 'passive layer', which acts as a barrier against further corrosion. When the quantity of Chromium in the metal is increased, it enhances its resistance to corrosion as well.
Carbon, Silicon, and Manganese are additional components found in stainless steel, alongside varying amounts of these elements. Moreover, Nickel and Molybdenum can be incorporated into stainless steel to introduce extra advantageous attributes such as improved formability and heightened resistance against corrosion.
